Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (WIP)

My personal walkthrough of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for PSP.Please note that both Persona 2 games were released on PS1 with remakes on PSP in Japan; but due to a very weird turn of events, only the PSP version of Innocent Sin and the PS1 version of Eternal Punishment were released in America. So, if you play both official releases, you will be sort of going backwards in quality when you play the sequel. There is a fan translation of the PSP version of Eternal Punishment, and I have used that version for my Eternal Punishment walkthrough, for it is a big quality upgrade. A user on github ported the PS1 official translation onto the Japanese PSP ISO file and also included a fan translation for the additional content, Tatsuya's Scenario, with permission from the creator. You could go there and do the patching yourself with the instructions provided, but someone already did so and posted the fresh download link here. In short, that link is a fan translated version of the better edition of the game, and it can be run by using an emulator such as PPSSPP.I will note though, that emulators are fully legal if you acquire ROMs and ISOs with permission, and/or already own your own copy of this content and I do not condone stealing, so don't get me in trouble. I do not make any money off of these walkthroughs, so relax.Alright, so before you continue I also need to just let you know that I would recommend having the Contact Guide below opened in another tab all throughout the game so you can reference it as needed.Welcome and I hope you enjoy!

Beginning the Game

Choose your difficulty. I said it once and I'll say it again, there is no shame in easy mode if you just want the story. After you select your choice, a series of cutscenes will introduce you to the world. You may choose any dialogue options here. After the conversation with your dumbass boss, exit her office (with a penis shaped table in it for some reason) for another quick cutscene. Speak to everyone you can and then head down the elevator to meet up with Ulala. When you leave, you'll find yourself in another cutscene at Seven Sister's High.

Seven Sisters High

2F: You will start on the second floor. After the cutscene, leave the room. Speak to the students and advance south to the staircase. There is a treasure chest next to the stairs containing Energy Drink x2. On your map, you'll notice that some doors are green and some are red, this just indicates whether the doors are usable or not, which is really useful. There are two classrooms on this floor that you can enter. Go ahead and enter both 2-A and 2-C to find more students to speak to. After you're done, head up to the third floor.3F: In the southeast corner, next to the stairs, there is another treasure chest containing ¥1200. Head to 3-B and talk to everyone. When you're done, head down two flights of stairs.1F: Here, 1-D is the only classroom open to talk to more students. You can go to the Janitor's Room to the northwest and the Bike Racks to the northeast if you like, but whenever you're ready, just head to the courtyard to continue the story with another cutscene. When you're in control again, speak to everyone in the courtyard, then head back inside and up to the third floor.3F: Find the Principal's Office in the northwest and enter for a series of cutscenes. You can say anything to Ulala. After the cutscene is over, random encounters are now active in the school. If you would like to grind in this dungeon, the Janitor's Room on the first floor functions as a healing room. Head to the second floor when you're ready.2F: Head to the Teacher's Lounge in the northwest corner and speak to the man at the blackboard to obtain the Clock Tower Key. Head to the fourth floor.4F: Enter the Clock Tower for a cutscene, and your first boss fight.Boss: Empusa and Apep x2: Begin by killing Empusa first, because she heals the others. She is weak to Earth, nullifies Light and Dark, and resists Mind and Nerve. The Apep on the other hand are weak to Fire, and resist Mind, Nerve, Dark, Light, and Water. It's your first boss so it won't be too hard regardless. After the battle you'll witness some more cutscenes. Talk to everyone and leave the school to the Town Map.

Spreading Rumors Part I

This is the Rengedai Town Map. There are NPCs here to talk to, and if you hold down you can see all interactable locations. If you need healing, you can head to Lotus > Kaori and heal up with aromatherapy. Speak to everyone you wish if you'd like, but when you are ready, you're going to head to the edge of Rengedai to get to the Sumaru City Map.You only have two locations so far: Rengedai, and Aoba. Obviously, head to Aoba. You'll want to head to Aoba Way > Kuzunoha Detective Agency to advance the plot. After the cutscene, spread the only available rumor with Chief Todoroki, and another short cutscene will play. Leave the agency when you're ready.Head over to Rengedai > Lotus > Gatten Sushi and speak to Rumormonger Toro to obtain a new rumor about Time Castle selling Skill Cards. There is actually a second part to this rumor, but unfortunately you have to spread this one first and come back for the second part, then go spread that one as well. The second rumor is about Time Castle also duplicating the Skill Cards.Next, head to Aoba > Aoba Way > Double Slash. After the cutscene, re-enter Double Slash and interact with the orange computer again to obtain another rumor about Rosa Candida selling armor.Next stop is the Velvet Room. If you care about the dialogue, make sure to talk to everyone multiple times to read it all. This is just the introduction and you do not need to do anything here really except see it exists. Feel free to do fusions with Igor if you're able to, but when you're ready, go ahead and leave. Also in Aoba Way is Parabellum and Rosa Candida, the places your rumors affected. Go ahead and buy weapons and armor if you have enough money left to do so. Whenever you are done exploring and shopping, it's time to head to the third town on our City Map now, Mt. Katatsumuri.Note: It is known as Mt. Mifune in the PS1 edition.

Mt. Katatsumuri

Anyway, you'll notice there is only one location here to enter, the Sanitarium. As you head down that path, there will be some short dialogue with that NPC on the map. Afterward, just head to the little path nearby and enter there. This trail is divided into seven areas.Area 1: Simply move your way north, with a hidden path connecting to the second half of the area in the middle. Use your map throughout these areas to help you find the hidden paths.Area 2: This area is just a donut. In the northeast of this area, you'll find a chest containing Antidote x3.Area 3: This area is a little clusterfuck, but if you go straight north from where you enter, you'll find a chest containing an Aqua Card. Continuing north just loops around to the main path again, so which ever way you go, just head to the far east to find the path leading to the next segment. From there head north, but before you advance to the next area, there is another hidden path to the west that has two chests. Open them to find Snuff Soul x3 and Ohnusa x2.Area 4: This area is just a straight path northeast to the next area.Area 5: Follow the path until you see the river. Follow the river west until you see a bridge. Before crossing the bridge, head south to find an exit back to Area 4. Here you'll find a chest containing St Card. Head back to the bridge and cross. From here, it's just straight north to the next area.Area 6: This area is pretty simple, it just has a lot of trees. Head north until you see a path leading east. Follow it all the way over until you see a hidden path to the south. Follow that all the way south back to Area 5. Follow this down to the river to find Obsidian. Return to the main path in Area 6 and head north to the next area.Area 7: Head northeast through the hidden path, then east and south through another hidden path to find Medicine x3.Now, there is something in this game called Ancestor Personas. If you follow this secret path east, you'll find an offertory box, in which you can donate ¥10,000. This is a necessary step in obtaining one of said Ancestor Personas. The frustrating part here is that it only lets you donate ¥100 at a time. So yes, you have to donate 100 times. Math, smh. Don't worry about losing count though, because once you donate 100 times, it will say that the offering box is full. So you will know for sure when you have finished the task.Whether you choose to do this or not, you'll have to head back north from here to the main path again. Just keep heading north till you find the stone steps. You'll probably want to save your game here, because you're entering a second dungeon, the Sanitarium.

quetzlinova's Walkthroughs

Sanitarium

You'll start off with a bit of a wild cutscene. This dungeon is made up of four floors total.1F: When you're ready, speak to everyone if you like, then exit the room and advance south. First you will find a Velvet Room, which I recommend utilizing right now. Make sure to speak to everyone for story. Next door you will find Trish's Spring. If you're not familiar, you can use her springs to heal up your party for an extortionate amount of money that gets worse as the game goes on. I don't recommend ever using her services unless you absolutely have to. Anyway, you should still enter, and talk to your party. Then talk to Trish, then to your party again. This should unlock a group contact later on.Head south until you hit a wall, and just to the west is an elevator that isn't working, and a chest containing Antidote x3. Make your way all the way east and follow the hall as it turns north again, past a billion more inaccessible doors. until you see the stairs leading up.2F: You'll notice that you can just go to the third floor from here, but, in actuality, you can't. It's blocked. So, head south from the stairs and follow the path as it turns west. You'll see a chest on the way containing ¥5,000. You'll notice that on your map, there is a green door just after the chest, Room 206. Enter for some important conversations with your party members, and a nurse. When ready, keep moving down the hall until you reach the set of stairs leading up.3F: Once again, there is a set of stairs next to you, which will lead to a dead end hall. However, you should take them if you want to obtain Mithril Silver which can be used later. Anyway, from these stairs, follow the hall all the way south, then east until it forks north. Head north and then west again to get Ag Incense from the chest. East from this fork leads to a dead end, so go ahead and head back to the southern hall and continue east from there for an important cutscene. After the cutscene, talk to your party and exit Room 303. Continue down the hallway until you reach the next set of stairs.4F: This is simple. Just follow the hall until you see the Director's Office, and enter for a boss fight.Boss: Hellhound: Sorry, but Baofu has left for now. The Hellhound is weak against Water and Ice, and he absorbs Fire. At this point in the game this might prove difficult, but I believe in you. After the boss fight, you will have a brief cutscene, where they tell you your next destination: the Aerospace Museum. But before we head there, it's time to Spread Rumors.

Spreading Rumors Part II

Alright, the first stop is going to be Kounan > Lunar Palace Kounan, which is Maya and Ulala's apartment. You're just stopping by to trigger the first Flamenco Dance Flag. This is the first step in unlocking a group contact later on in the game, Flamenco de la Pasion. Just talk to Ulala, that's it. When you're ready, head out.Time to hit up the rumormongers to learn about sweepstakes:Rengedai > Lotus > Gatten Sushi > Toro
After hearing the rumor from Toro, also talk to him to hear a quick Persona 1 reference.
Aoba > Aoba Way > Double Slash > Orange Computer
Kounan > Seaside Mall > Jolly Roger > Rumormonger Master
While you're at the Seaside Mall go ahead and also talk to the Sumaru Genie about the Wang Long furtune teller. This will trigger Rumormonger Master at Jolly Roger to gain a rumor about her on top of his sweepstakes rumor.Next, make sure to stop at Aoba > Aoba Way > Kuzunoha Detective Agency to spread the sweepstakes rumor of your choice. I went with the weapons one. If there is anything you don't understand about the sweepstakes, speak to Tamaki here, she explains it very well. After spreading the Sumaru Genie rumor, I would recommend saving and loading to get the result you want, but if you get a fortune from her, these are the results:Blue Dragon: Change in demon personalities
Red Dragon: Doubles mutation rate
Yellow Dragon: Double's Maya's base luck
Silver Dragon: Demons will not break contact until 4 emotion stages have been reached
Light Dragon: Doubles exp and halves money earned.
Black Dragon: Halves exp and doubles money earned.
Personally I think Light Dragon is the smartest choice here, but it's fully up to you, of course. Now for a couple small things. Head to Kounan > Kounan PD and speak to the two Policewomen. This is a trigger for another silly cutscene later.Next, Kounan > Hiiragi Therapy. In the back, you can find Maki from Persona 1. You can talk to her and say Yes. to knowing Yukino. This is just a cute little cameo. Now of course, before you move on, make sure you have all the best weapons and armor from Rosa Candida and Parabellum in Aoba Way.That's it! Time to move on with the main plot. We're heading to the Aerospace Museum.

Aerospace Museum

You can find the Aerospace Museum in Kounan.Upon entering you'll witness some cutscenes. When you have control, you're being timed to complete this in 30 minutes.1F: There are no random encounters here. This floor has absolutely nothing to do other than to advance to the second floor. Just turn north right away, and west when you hit the wall to find the stairs. Easy peasy.2F: Again, no random encounters. At first, head east to find a chest containing Medicine x3. Head to the west end now for another chest containing Revival Bead x2. Head west again from here, and as far as you can go south on the west wall. Once the hall turns east you will find and Exhibit Room. Enter for a cutscene.Head east, ignoring the other two Exhibit Rooms in this hallway, they contain nothing. Follow the hall as it turns north, then east again to another door labeled Exhibit Hall, and enter. An important cutscene will play. Once you have control again, head southwest to find stairs.3F: Once again, no random encounters. Head north and take the second hall to the east (the first is blocked by flames). Then the first turn south, and you'll find more children in an Exhibit Room to the west. Go back north to the hall and head further east to the second turn south this time to find a chest holding Rattle Drink x2. Now head north past the next room and west again to find another display room with a chest containing Damascus Steel Backtrack to the center area where you started, we're going to explore the north side now.Upon heading north from that main area, there will be a Trish's Fountain on the west side of the hall. I recommend always entering these to speak to Trish and your party. Ignore the Exhibit Room across the hall from Trish's Spring. Head north and you'll see Jun blocking the stairs. Go all the way west from here and south, ignoring the chest(it's a trap). Once you hit the southern wall, you'll find an Exhibit Room with more children just to the east. After rescuing them, keep heading east and far north to find a chest containing Protection Magatama. Now you can backtrack to the stairs where you saw Jun and advance.4F: You will now be facing random encounters. After some quick dialogue, head south, then east from the elevator, and into the room southeast. Here you'll find Chewing Soul x2. Exit south from here and head west for another quick dialogue. On the south end of this big room, you'll find Jun blocking the stairs again. Go north and turn west when you can. In this room, just exit south, and follow this hall to the west and north to find the Exhibit Room with children. Just like last time, you can now backtrack to where you saw Jun and head up the stairs.5F: Exit to the roof for a big cutscene and your boss fight. The dialogue choice does not matter.Boss: Tatsuya Sudou: So, he has four minions. Two Shax (the bird things) and two Minotaur. He himself absorbs Fire and is weak against Water. The Shax nullify Water and are weak to Guns, Fire, and Earth. The Minotaur are just weak to any Magic. The main strategy here is to take out the Shax first, then the Minotaur, and then Tatsuya Sudou. After the fight, you'll see some more important cutscenes. That was lovely. Next up, time to spread rumors.

Contact Guide

When in battle you may choose to Contact the personas. You can get various things from them such as healing and items, but most importantly, raising their Eagerness level gets you their Tarot Cards. This is one of the most important mechanics of the game because these allow you to fuse new, stronger personas. So I highly recommend doing this often. Raising Happiness allows you to form a pact with the demon. This makes them give you items, money, or information the next time you encounter them. The correct dialogue choices with the correct character is the only way these conversations will be successful. However, the demons can also be unpredictable and will respond differently to the same things when they ask you questions, so there is still some luck and RNG involved. Below are all the correct dialogue choices, organized by dungeon.
